Kiryu Gundam, nephew to the Azure Dragon Gundam of the Dragon Fang clan in Shadow Dance Dreamland, is known for his considerable skills but is notorious for being a hothead with too much self-confidence. Pointed out by the White Emperor, Kiryu Gundam, spurred by pride, set out to prove his strength by heading to the celestial palace, a place known for its congregation of formidable warriors. During his journey, he encountered Kotomaru and challenged him to a duel, through which he began to grasp the true essence of strength and experienced personal growth. He later came to admire Kotomaru, referring to him as "brother" and journeyed with him towards Rash Cloud Land (in the manga version, he simply refers to him as Kotomaru).

When unleashing his ultimate technique, Super Dragon Strike, he assumes the stance of the Super Dragon.

Recognized by the Armor King, Kiryu Gundam was equipped with the divine instruments of fire and became a member of the Combatant Quintet. After the war, he inherited the armor of Fire, Wind, and Mountain, transforming into the Flame Kiryu.
